Saturday, November 5, 2011 "Day Two"

We woke up early in anticipation of our first 'full day' adventure, and hit the road.  We had real coffee and bananas,  then headed for Amarillo and the New Mexico border.   Gas in Wichita Falls, TX was 'only' $3.09  causing us to totally 'top off' the tank ($115)!

At the 'Welcome Center" in NM, Magee first noticed the big sign saying "Watch for Rattlesnakes", we got our new maps,  and the sweet lady told us that a tiny town,  San Jon, NM a few miles down the road welcomed free overnight camping!

We were surprised at the quaint welcoming park with picnic tables and shelters, and quickly chose our 'spot', feeling quite smug with having the whole park to ourselves, the convenience, and the glorious sunset!
Not only were we 'settled in', but we were on Route 66 and the small original town was special.
Magee and I were tired and munched on peanut butter crackers, rearranged some of our 'stuff' and quickly settled down for a long deep sleep.

The rig was running well, the jeep was towing well, and Magee had quickly mastered every button and switch in the rig, so we felt we were definitely 'in control' of our trip.
